Try a New Technique - Paper Tole

Today's challenge was to stamp an image, NON FLOWER, and then stamp again and cut it out and place on top of first stamped image. So, the image looks 3-d. I do this sometimes on my cards, so this was not a new technique for me. Finding a non flower image was kind of hard! I have TONS of flower images! I did have to draw the tree though, because I have yet to come across a tree that I like and can use like this!

Anyway, here's what I came up w/. It's abstract, but it works!

And here's a side view so you can see that the tree, apples, bucket and leaf are all popped up.

Recipe:
Stamps: Weathered, Give Thanks, Painted Posies, Sincere Salutations
Paper: white, vanilla
Ink: Garden Green, Ruby Red, Basic Brown, black
Accessories: red and green stickles, pop up dots, sponge

Gina K Swap

Well, I don't know if we're allowed to post these on our blogs yet, but I'm putting it on here! I was just involved in a swap through Gina K. Designs and I luckily only had to make 6 cards! Whew! That was a piece of cake! Well.....until I had to decide what the heck my card was going to look like! I wanted to do black and white, but the creative juices were all dried up. So, I decided to go w/ color. I took a spin on the color wheel and came up w/ Elegant Eggplant, Always Artichoke and vanilla. And this is what came of that:

I really enjoyed making these! I was actually in the middle of revamping and reorganizing my room. Yes, Mom, I did throw stuff away!!!! I'm a pack rat! I think I'm going to use something someday, so I MUST keep it! And actually, I was ticked yesterday because I threw away all of my maps that I have collected over the years away (I LOVE geography and roadmaps) when I was reorganizing. Well, needless to say, yesterday I needed a map for the background of a card!!! So, I had to rip a page out of an atlas to use! Hey, whatever works, right???? So, anyway, I had half of these cards made, when I had to put everything aside and get this room moved around and organized. So, I finally finished them the next evening, and was SO excited at how they came out!!!! I hope the people that I swapped with like them as much as I like them! And my new favorite thing to work with? Microbeads!!!!!! LOVE them!!!! They are a pain in the butt to work with, but the look they give you is just incredible!!!!

Ok, recipe:

Stamps: Framed Flowers by Gina K. Designs
Paper: Elegant Eggplant, vanilla
Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Always Artichoke, versamark
Accessories: purple and vanilla ribbon, stapler, pop up dots, Kaleidescope e.p., Crystal Effects, microbeads, swirl cuttlebug folder

Thanks for stopping by! Come on back and see what's new!

Easter flower holder gifts

Today, well actually this morning, I made a couple Easter flower holders to give as gifts for my cousins. I pretty much made my own little purse. I didn't have any tutorial or anything. I had the idea for a purse from my Stampin' Up demo, who made one w/ a double slot w/ 12x12 paper. But, I didn't need a double slot, so I kind of made my own up! And I would just like to say, THANK GOD FOR STICKY STRIP!!!! If you don't have it, go and buy some! This stuff is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, on to the bags!

Ok, there are two pictures per bag. One of the entire gift and the other close up.

First:

This one was for the Easter "egg"stravaganza hostess. I always like to give her something special for having our whole family over for dinner and a huge egg hunt.

Fruit of the Vine

Today's challenge was a color challenge. I had to use Kraft, which is like chipboard, but the texture is just regular paper; Orchid Opulence, which I HATE this color!; and Sage Shadow, which I LOVE this color! Actually though, I really can't say that I hate Orchid Opulence, because once I started using it, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was. I don't know, perhaps they changed the loudness of O.O. I used it before when it was a color challenge, and it was SUPER loud! Like, shouting off the rooftops loud. So, I was afraid to use it today. But, I did, and it turned out super cute! If I do say so myself! I totally was not headed in the direction I ended up going in! Funny how that happens! Anyway, I decided to work with Blossoms Abound, since I haven't even cut the rubber yet! (gasp!) I know, I know. Usually, the day that I receive my stamps, I'm already cutting them out. Well....when you're watching 4 kids every day, it's kind of hard to get a whole lot done! And I have a whole lot of stamps to cut. Anyway, I digress.... So, I chose Blossoms Abound, and started stamping with it. Then I got the idea to go Easter with it. And that's how I got the cross. I stamped the Renewed Faith cross, but I didn't like it. It's way too scribbly. I wanted a real cross look. So, I drew my own! When all else fails and you don't have anything to use with what you're envisioning, draw it! And of course, I instantly thought of "Fruit of the vine" and has been in my head ever since! I had to write the sentiment because I couldn't get to my printer. Which, I still can't and it's already 11:38!!! Aaaaggghhh!!!!! Time's a wastin'!
So, without further ado, here's the card! Hope you like it!

Recipe:
Stamps: Blossoms Abound, Weathered background
Paper: Orchid Opulence, Sage Shadow, Creamy Caramel (sub. for Kraft)
Ink: Creamy Caramel, Sage Shadow, Orchid Opulence, Choc. Chip
Accessories: Scor-Pal (which this tool is TOTALLY my pal!), pop up dots, scissor edge, sponge

Challenge updates again!

I have fallen behind in updating my blog, if anyone even keeps track besides me!!!

Anyway, here are all the cards & projects I have done recently. No recipes, just go to Splitcoast to find out whatever I used. Or you could email me....
Here they are!
Limited Supply Challenge - No Tools!

Try A New Technique - Cuttlebug Negative

This Easter decoration was made from the wood letter "E". I painted it white, and then painted the pink polka dots on it. I cut the letters from a stencil, and then ran them through the cuttlebug. I drew my eggs and cut the jagged edges to look like broken eggshells. I took reinkers and dropped a couple drops in a paint tray, and then dipped my brush in and then hit the brush against my fingers to make the splatter effect. To adhere the grass, I sprayed spray adhesive. The eggs are adhered using pop up dots. Messy, but lots of fun!

Relax!

Tonight I finished a project that I absolutely fell in love with! I don't want to give this away!!!
I wanted to submit some cards and things for a chance to be on Gina K's design team for April-July or something like that. And so, I started thinking about what direction I wanted to go in regarding her stamps and how I wanted to use them.
I first stamped the little monkey from Just So Hippy, and then decided to draw palm trees and make the monkey sit on a hammock. Then, I added a newspaper and then had to stop for something. So, the monkey and palm trees just sat for about a week. Then, tonight, I had some time, so I picked them back up again, and started working with them. I took off the one arm that the monkey had that was supporting the stance, so you can pretend that the other hand is holding the other side of the newspaper. Then, I colored in the palm trees, and finally was able to use my magic mesh that I had bought way back in January. So, I manipulated that into a hammock. I used ribbon for the edging and spray adhesed that and folded it over to make the edge solid. I cut a slit in the middle and sank the monkey in. Then, I added the coffee beans for the coconuts and tied black hemp around the trees for the hammock ties. I dabbed Crystal Effects on the bottoms of the trees and sprinkled sand.

Then I looked at it, and decided it was too big and bulky to go on a card. So......what was a girl to do???? I decided to put the scene on a stamp box, but what was I going to put inside??? I don't have anything "beachy". So, I decided to use some of my tealights. Well, all mine had been lit, but I have some that I am shipping to someone, and thought I would just use some of hers! I'll ship her the box as is! She'll love it! She thinks I'm the greatest card maker in the world! It's nice on the ego!

Anyway, I also have a jar of sea glass that I picked up in Hawaii that I haven't really done anything with except display it, and I have also displayed it at my PartyLite shows. Anyway, back to my point! I had seen someone stamp directly on the glass, and I have kept that image in my head for that someday card. Well, someday kind of arrived tonight! I didn't really stamp it, I traced the letters from a stencil and went over the letters with a black sharpie. I tied tan hemp around to kind of make a belly band, and to finish the look.
I was SO happy with it when I was done! And everyone's asleep! I have no one to show it too! Boo hoo! Oh well! Hopefully someone out there in cyberspace can tell me if they love this box as much as I do?!

Faux Cloisonne Challenge

Today's challenge on Splitcoast was Try a New Technique - Faux Cloisonne. Where you take a glossy page, from a magazine, and stamp on it. Then cut it out and put on your card. Well, the first submission was a beautiful flower that was embossed on a flower picture. It was beautiful! So, I was inspired and started looking through all of my magazines. Unfortunately I don't have any flowery magazines anymore! All I have is PaperCrafts, and other card/stamping/scrapbooking mags. But, I did have the latest IKEA magazine! I started looking through it and found several pictures that I knew I could use! I looked through my stamp directory for just the right stamps! I decided to use Fine Frames for the clouds, and Bold Butterfly. The clouds are actually a picture of a shaggy rug. The butterflies are close ups of a pot and a stack of bath towels or rugs. The "tree" is actually a potted plant! And I used a small circle punch for the one side that's underneath the green polka dot ribbon; and a square punch for the opposite side. I added a flower from Bold Butterfly and created a background. I ran my Brocade Blue cardstock through my new Xyron 900 and made the back sticky, and stuck it to a Composition Notebook. Then I stamped and cut out the clouds and butterflies. The clouds and background flowers are stamped with Versamark and clear e.p. The butterflies are stamped with Black Craft Ink and clear e.p. I popped up the clouds and butterflies with pop up dots. I found each letter for the word "Dream" throughout the IKEA catalog.

MFT Swap

Yesterday I mailed out my 20 cards for the My Favorite Things swap that I'm involved in. I had the first ten done, and then found out Wed. night that I had to have them in the mail by Wed.!!!! I still had to get 10 more done! Aaaaggghhh!!! So, I stopped what I was doing and started working! Somehow, I was able to get all 10 done and mail them out by 4:50. Whew! What an exhausting day!

The first 10 that I had to do was "Pick a Set". So I chose Meet Me at the Cafe. I had done a card a couple weeks ago, and wanted to do the same card, however, I was barred from using any other stamp co's stamps, so I had to change the "scene". So, I decided to make the headless girls have some wine on the boardwalk! Turned out pretty good, I think! I would love to know what you think of it!

Recipe:
Stamps: Meet Me at the Cafe, By the Seashore (just the bird)
Colors used: Black, Choc. Chip, Close to Cocoa, Brocade Blue, Cameo Coral, Pumpkin Pie, Sahara Sand, Certainly Celery, Baroque Burgundy, Lavender Lace, Blush Blossom, Going Gray, Apricot Appeal, Old Olive, Vanilla
Accessories: water color crayons, aquapainter, markers, stickles, silver e.p., glossy glaze, versamark, souffle gel pen, black gel pen, ruler

The second set of 10 that I had to make was "Pick a Sketch", so I chose a previous sketch on the My Favorite Things forum that I had done a card on before. For the card above, I probably spend a whole week working on those cards, but these cards for the sketch challenge were done within 7 hours. And that's with watching and taking care of 4 kids! Talk about exhausting! But, I got them done, so it was a huge relief when I left the post office!

For this sketch challenge card, I again could only use My Favorite Things stamps, so I used By the Seashore and the dog from Meet Me at the Cafe. I also used Twisted Sentiments for the sentiment. This set is just so funny!

Anyway, I couldn't find a bone anywhere, so I had to make my own. I had to cut out 30 bones! And the ribbon w/ the hardware is to imitate the "collar" on the dog. Do you get it? And for the other dog, I stamped on vellum, and then turned it over to face the other dog that's walking. I stuck the dog through my mini xyron to make into a sticker.

Recipe:
Stamps: By the Seashore, Meet Me at the Cafe, Twisted Sentiments
Ink: black, Pretty in Pink, Really Rust, Night of Navy, Going Gray, souffle gel pen, Brocade Blue, Garden Green, Blush Blossom
Paper: white, vanilla (for the bones), Night of Navy, navy blue, Really Rust, Brocade Blue, vellum
Accessories: navy ribbon, hodgepodge hardware, pop up dots, small square punch, Liquid Applique, Q-tips (for clouds)

Thank you

Today I made some more Thank You cards for Kevin to send out for his dad. I just have not had any time to make any for him before now! Isn't that terrible!
Anyway, so I just decided to use Ageless Adornment because I bought it last year to use the callalilly, which is one of my favorite flowers, and I haven't inked it up yet. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but after playing around with it, I came up with a pretty cool layout. I love using eyelets, which, if you know me personally, I said that I would never buy eyelets because they make too much noise! Well, I have seen the light, and now love them!

Ok, enough chit chat, here's the card!

Recipe:
Stamps: Ageless Adornment, All Year Cheer
Ink: Black, So Saffron
Paper: black and white
Accessories: Paper piercing, black polka dot ribbon from Michael's.

Thanks for visiting!
